Decision Time

It has been almost three weeks since the last entry. Much thinking and reading has been accomplished in lieu of blog writing.

The next appointment with the surgeon is tomorrow morning and I have made my decision.
I WANT MY LEGS BACK!

It has not been a difficult decision. It is very bothersome to always plan every day activities taking into account the impact on the knees, the level of pain, and the energy drain. I'm tired of having arthritis be the first thing on my mind all of the time. It's time to get on with life and I am confident that knee replacement will accomplish that goal.

Research and reading have helped to develop a check list of items to acquire in preparation for the operation.

1. Arrangements have been made to have the driveway cleared this winter as it isn't likely I'll be able to operate the snowblower for several weeks in the middle of the snow season.

2. We purchased a walkie-talkie set to communicate around the house.

3. It is recommended that we obtain a shower bench and toilet seat riser for the bathroom.

4. We already have a bed that lifts and lowers either head or foot so that will be helpful during the recovery phase.

5. We have two walkers that were used by my Father and my wife's Mother. I also have a cane which is used during attacks of gout. Should be good in that respect.

6. We've ordered a web camera with two-way audio for the front door so that we can greet visitors remotely and have a little more security which isn't a bad idea in any circumstance.

There are a number of other items on the check list for consultation with the doctor. The report on these preparations and what to expect during the recovery period will be in the next entry.
